AtCan Chapter members comprise a diverse collection of dedicated individuals working daily on waste management solutions for the Maritimes. Members are actively involved in the areas of waste collection and transfer systems; material recovery, recycling, and reuse; and landfill engineering and operations. As a result of the continually changing solid waste field, there exists an ongoing need for members to upgrade their skills. The goal of the AtCan Chapter is to regionally assist our members in meeting work challenges effectively and professionally.

CANADIAN CHAPTER BUILDERS AWARD 2018

The Atlantic Canada Chapter has long been fortunate to have a variety of industry leaders among its membership as we have seen the region take a key role in advancing innovative solid waste resource management solutions. Bruce Forest has long been one of those individuals. As a dedicated SWANA member for twenty years and current Director of the Atlantic Canada Chapter, Bruce has always been an advocate and willing host and participant in Chapter based training, tours and events. At times going above and beyond, such as when registration and administrative support staff were provided to help make the 2008 Canadian Symposium a resounding success.

During his twenty years with SWANA, Bruce was a long serving employee of the Municipality of the District of Chester as both the Director of Public Works and Solid Waste Manager. In addition to his formal training, Bruce was one of the first graduates of the Technical University of Nova Scotia's Certificate Program in Environmental Management in 1994. Since then, Bruce has earned several SWANA certifications, and has been a leader in the promotion and showcasing of innovative technologies, such as GPS based landfill compaction, leachate treatment, complementary on site wind turbine power generation, and has been a key player in bringing the Sustane fuel pelletizing technology to reality at the Chester Environmental Management Park. For his ongoing commitment to industry excellence and our Chapter, we are pleased to honour him as the 2018 recipient of the Chapter Builder Award.
