The Atlantic Canada Chapter of SWANA brings together approximately 60 individuals involved in the Waste-Resource industry from all provinces across the region. Our primary focus is to share and enhance the knowledge base that has developed over the past decade in Atlantic Canada, an area which can truly lay claim to the reputation of being home to more world class facilities per capita than anywhere else in North America.

A diverse Chapter membership includes a blend of both public and private sector managers, operating personnel, municipal educators, government regulators, consultants, industry suppliers and retired professionals. The Chapter regularly organizes and presents relevant training and industry related seminars and workshops. To date, the Atlantic Canada Chapter has provided certification training to 23 persons on landfill operations, 25 on C&D Management, and 19 in transfer systems. All of these graduates live and work in Atlantic Canada.

As our primary function is to disseminate information to waste management personnel on operations,

protection of the environment and safety, numerous health and safety sessions have been held around the region. It is a fact that properly trained and skilled employees are more effective at their work. It is also true that these persons work with fewer accidents and personal injury, while at the same time producing better operations with reduced environmental and financial impacts.

Historically, the Chapter has drawn heavily on Nova Scotia for its core membership, and while there have always been key members involved from the other three Atlantic provinces, it is currently our mission to increase representation and relevancy for the fellow industry professionals across our region. We also must work toward providing more training options for other key industry sectors, such as collection operations. The new options for on-line training have brought the classroom to your workplace in an efficient, affordable manner.

Check out what SWANA and the Atlantic Canada Chapter can offer !! You'll be pleasantly surprised.
